Industry news: May Edition

Another month of gaming, another month of news.

If there’s one thing this industry never does, it’s sit still. One day you’re chasing a flickering texture, the next you’re neck-deep in a bug that only happens on Tuesdays when the player jumps while pausing mid-animation(you know the one). It’s exhilarating, occasionally overwhelming, and always evolving.

That’s why we’re back with our monthly ritual: a lovingly compiled digest of the news and trends that matter. So, without further ado or unnecessary scroll fatigue, here’s what May had in store:

The latest version of Mortal Kombat 1 wraps everything into one neat package: Kombat Packs 1 & 2, the Khaos Reigns expansion, and even those cheeky movie skins. It’s available on all major platforms, and for people who already bought the base game, there’s an upgrade option. And if you’re feeling nostalgic, get ready for this: this edition marks the end of the content road, the studio confirmed. They decided to shift their focus to other projects further, so there will be no more updates. Time to finish him… and move on.

We know that it is important, as people from this industry, to keep in mind the release dates for the games of this year. Yet there are so many, right? Well, we’re probably not the only ones thinking about them, since GameSpot created the complete calendar of planned released games for this year, in chronological order. We believe it is essential to have this calendar, especially considering that ”PlayStation and Xbox systems are well into their lifespans, while Nintendo is releasing the Nintendo Switch’s successor, the Switch 2.” Save the link, have a look!

The latest update to Assassin’s Creed Shadows adds up to the game’s movement system, allowing characters to navigate the environment more smoothly and dynamically. Additionally, a previously exclusive mission titled “Thrown to the Dogs” is now accessible to all players. In this quest, players assist an injured dog, leading to a heartfelt storyline and the opportunity to have the canine join their in-game base. You gotta admit this is pretty cool.

Nintendo has updated its user agreement to state that if it detects unauthorized modifications or pirated content on your Switch console, it reserves the right to render the device permanently unusable. This means that altering the console’s hardware or software or using unofficial game copies, could lead to the console being “bricked,” or non-functional. Previously, Nintendo’s policies allowed for certain exceptions under applicable laws, but the new terms remove these provisions, raising concerns among users about consumer rights and device ownership.

Nintendo Switch

Well, that’s it…

Okay, there was a lot more we could’ve included, but we promised to keep it short. After all, it’s been a full month for us, and probably for you too.

So, back to work, everyone! And hey, don’t forget to take a little break from the news, the screens, the trends. Go catch some summer sun (or winter depending on where you are in the world); It still has the best resolution out there.
